Refractive Eye Surgery and Laser Vision Correction Options

The Laser Vision Correction Center at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE), part of the Center for Refractive Solutions, performs minimally invasive procedures to help you see better by correcting refractive errors. We can help whether you have trouble seeing things in the distance (nearsightedness or myopia) or close up (farsighted or hyperopia), or if your vision is blurry (astigmatism). These procedures are safe and effective. Our board certified ophthalmologists are leaders in the field of refractive surgery. They have deep experience performing laser and refractive surgeries. Our goal is to give you 20/20 vision, so you don’t need to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses.

If you are considering vision correction, we provide customized treatment plans, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and the latest technology in our state-of-the-art facility. Our procedures include:

  • Standard LASIK and Wavefront LASIK (custom LASIK): This is the most common approach and has been used for decades. LASIK surgery utilizes specialized laser technology to reshape the cornea. The addition of Wavefront LASIK, to create a personalized 3D map of the eye, greatly enhances the accuracy of the surgery, gives patients a more customized treatment tailored to their unique eye anatomy. This results in better vision.
  • Standard photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and custom PRK: This approach, like LASIK, is also time-tested. PRK may be an option if you are not a candidate for LASIK. You can also choose to have a more customized PRK procedure that includes a personalized 3D map of the eye.
  • EVO Implantable Collamer Lens: This procedure is one of the newer approaches to vision correction. It offers an alternative if you are not a candidate for LASIK or PRK.
  • Refractive lens exchange: If you are over age 40 and have become farsighted or nearsighted as you’ve gotten older, this procedure can eliminate your need for eyeglasses and contacts. This lens exchange procedure is similar to cataract surgery.

Each of these procedures offers different advantages, based on your eye health. When we examine your eyes, we will talk to you about your vision concerns, your lifestyle, and your goals. We will help you find the procedure that will best meet your needs.
