A nurse discusses pain management with Mom and child One of the hardest things for children to understand is that something that hurts or feels strange is actually helping them. Every child is closely observed for pain at every stage of the hospital stay, and appropriate pain relief administered. Parents and every child old enough to talk and mature enough to understand are shown how to indicate their pain on a scale from 1 to 10. Click here to see the scale.

We encourage a family's active participation in pain management and patient safety.
