The Intake Process
 
A nursing assistant takes the child's vital signs A nursing assistant will take your child's vital signs. 

This includes:

  • Temperature
  • Pulse
  • Respiration
  • Blood pressure (for 4 years and above)
  • Height 
  • Weight

   

Children are given comfortable gowns, pj's and robes to wear during their stay

No need to pack pajamas! For such a short stay of only a few hours, use our colorful, comfortable gowns, pj's and robes. Many children just wear their own shoes, because most of our elective surgery patients aren't "sick enough" to be in bed and would rather walk around and play in the playroom.

   
A nurse will meet with you to review all information and instructions before surgery A nurse meets with the parent and child to review all presurgical information and instructions. 

This includes:

  • Nursing assessment
  • Orientation to the room
  • Explanation of presurgical preparation and procedure
  • Medication as ordered
  • Pain management
