The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Eye Trauma Service is New York City's premier specialty facility dedicated solely to the care of the severely injured eyes and related tissues. It is an integrated multi-specialty service with 42 Board Certified eye surgeons representing the Anterior Segment, Retina and Oculoplastics Services

The "Eye Trauma Hot Line" phone system provides access to the Center’s triage officer 24 hours a day. Patients are referred from private doctor’s offices, Emergency Rooms, and other facilities from the tri-state area, as well as internationally.

Research, publications and lectures are the logical outgrowth of the service’s activities. In the past year, the attending surgeons of New York Eye Trauma Center have presented papers at numerous meetings and are active members of The American Society of Ocular Trauma.

The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary has been selected as the Eye Registry of the State of New York as a member of the United States Eye Injury Registry. This will enable The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary to collect eye injury data in a standardized fashion facilitating analytical epidemiological research, the development of preventative strategies, the development of clinical trials, and optimizing treatment modalities.

The Trauma Service holds conferences monthly where complex cases are presented and discussed among the entire staff.
