Hundreds of people travel to the missions each year for desperately needed surgeries and treatment.
New York, NY (August 2010) -- Douglas F. Buxton, MD, ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and external diseases, will be part of the International Eye Volunteers two-week medical mission to the Zimba Eye Clinic in the African nation of Zambia.
A team of doctors and nurses will evaluate patients with infections, chronic and degenerative diseases, and trauma as well as perform surgeries such as cataract / implant procedures and corneal transplants. They expect to treat literally hundreds of indigent citizens who would otherwise develop blindness or remain blind due to lack of access to appropriate care.
