New York, N.Y. -- August 2002 -- The
New York Eye and Ear Infirmary was named the Official Hospital of the Sybase
Big Apple Classic presented by Golf Magazine, an international LPGA event held
July 22-28 at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle. It featured the top stars in women’s golf and was televised on NBC.
More
than 40 Infirmary volunteers, including physicians, nurses and ancillary staff, staffed
the Medical Tent and were also on hand to offer vision and ear-nose-throat
screenings as well as share information about its services with the thousands
of spectators who attended the week-long event.
The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary received broad exposure through complimentary air time on NBC
television, tournament program, radio and television announcements and
commercials, and continuing messages on 10 electronic scoreboards around the
course.
President
and CEO Joseph Corcoran was on hand to greet Infirmary volunteers, tour the tournament site and meet
with key corporate participants including John Chen, Chairman of Sybase Corporation, the Title Sponsor, Bob Schwartz,
Tournament Chairman, GOLF MAGAZINE, and Raymond Gerosa, Executive Director,
Octagon. During his visit, Mr. Corcoran was interviewed on radio station WVOX
and participated in the closing ceremonies as the trophy was presented to
tournament champion, Gloria Park.
Proceeds
from NYEEI's spectator and pro-am ticket sales will benefit the hospital's
programs of care.
